The
Grassmarket
The Grassmarket square is located
in the heart of Edinburgh's old town. It is a broad and leafy square
that has been a market place for nearly 500 years.
The Grassmarket was the place for
many an execution in medieval times and where the body snatchers
Burke and Hare carried out the trade in the 19th century.
Thankfully, today it is more famous as the place people meet before
going on a night out and it has some fine restaurants, shops,
hotels, and pubs. The west side of the square is dominated by the
castle rock while its east entrance leads out up Victoria street to
the Royal mile.
